I just want to enter the competition,
with what I use. I don't know if they have been reported about
earlier, maybe they have. I hope you can use them though:
My biggest problem when memorizing things
(e.g. for school) has always been to stay focused. I have found
three things that I use to boost my concentration after a while,
when mind wanders.
If you feel tired: first take one deep
breath then hold it for 10-20 seconds, then take a new breath
very fast and hold it yet again. Do this for one or two minutes.
It is important you do not give yourself a rest
between the breaths. The effect reminds me of taking a walk (but
it is much quicker).
If you can't help but think of other
things all the time: most often this is because the task is not
hard and stimulating enough. Start walk around while holding
the book or whatever in your hand. You will find walking stimulates
the brain just enough to make you concentrate better. If you
still can't concentrate though I'd suggest you to bring that
thing of which you are thinking of up, and then forget about
it consciously.
And the last thing you need to do (this
is a classic one); you need to be ruthless about setting aside
time. Say to yourself; 30 minutes of work; then do it. No matter
what.
Best regards,
Calle Ekdahl, From Sweden
Walking always helps me when I want to concentrate, but I
hadn't thought about carrying the material to be studied while
walking. Thank you Calle, and I hope that you like the prize.
In order to get the newsletter put together and have this
page up before that, I have to pick a winner just two or three
days after each newsletter. However, if you sent any ideas in
later, I may use them for the following weeks.
